The Decorating Basics Course 1 fee is R1400 (50% non-refundable deposit is required when you register to book your place in class).

The fee includes the following:

  • Decorating Basics Student Kit (below is a list of the contents of the kit)
  • Lesson Plan (Handbook)
  • Class Fee
  • Butter Icing for Lesson 1

Other useful items will be used in class and can be purchased from El Roi Guest Lodge

  • Piping Gel
  • A Turntable
  • Cake Level Cutter
  • Cake Icer Tip

In addition to the above you would need to bring certain supplies to each lesson. A supply list will be given to you when you register.

We only supply the butter icing for the first lesson. You will then be shown in class how to make the icing and which ingredients you need. This will teach students how to make their own icing and the correct consistencies so that after the course they will be able to make their own icing with no problems.

Certain techniques in the decorating require certain icing consistencies - everything will be explained in the lessons.

  • a 9" Rolling Pin
  • 1 packet of Gum Paste or Fontant  along with Tylose powder or CMC powder
  • Extra icing flower squares
  • Extra foil square
